The Pitt, one of Max‘s latest ratings juggernauts, locked fans in for 15 action-packed episodes, each documenting an hour of a shift in the ER of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. But where does the show actually film?

The medical drama’s Season 1 finale was released a week ago, though The Pitt Season 2 was confirmed on Feb. 14. The series is reportedly aiming for a January 2026 Season 2 debut, per Variety.

As for who from The Pitt cast will be back for Season 2, series star, writer, and executive producer Noah Wyle would not spill too many details in his interview with DECIDER, explaining that they “loved all these characters.”

“You can only keep certain people in certain jobs in certain hospitals before there’s a natural changeover,” he continued. “You know, we’re breaking story now. I don’t know how to answer that question other than to say that it’s great that people want these characters to come back and that’s really fun to play into and away from and with, and that’s great.”

However, showrunner R. Scott Gemmill said he “would like to see Langdon come back,” referring to Patrick Ball‘s Dr. Frank Langdon, and Shawn Hatosy told DECIDER that he “look[s] forward to digging in further” to his character Dr. Jack Abbot’s trauma. Where is The Pitt filmed?

While The Pitt was primarily filmed in Burbank, California on soundstages, CBS News’ Pittsburgh affiliate KDKA reported in September that the show shot at Pittsburgh’s Allegheny General Hospital for three days. This included capturing drone footage of above the hospital, moments of helicopters on the hospital’s helipad, and footage of the city at large.

The show has received praise from Allegheny General Hospital employees, as the hospital’s director of emergency and registered nurse Kathy Sikora told Pittsburgh Magazine, “It’s the most realistic medical show I’ve seen.”

What will The Pitt Season 2 be about?

Gemmill revealed earlier this month that The Pitt Season 2 will take place over the Fourth of July weekend. Gemmill explained to DECIDER that they “have to shoot [on location in Pittsburgh] in September, generally, just because of our schedule and weather.”

“So whatever we shoot in September, we have sort of match to,” he added. “So that basically limits us to, I would say, from May to November.”

While Gemmill noted that they “could’ve done Halloween,” he said that they “wanted [to] also be away from the the show or the time period enough that certain things could have transpired. So we have more story to tell when we come back.”
